Make blocked access easy to investigate and restore

Automating access removal or request blocking can save repetitive work, but it can also interrupt legitimate tasks. Decide where the team can find blocking logs and who has permission to restore access or disable a rule.

Read the GitHub and Cloudflare examples

GitHub describes how Evergreen manages repositories and collaborator access. Cloudflare introduces a Gateway feature that sends allowed requests to a Worker for processing. Read the sources below to understand the problems each company addresses and which parts might apply to your team.

Test recovery with a test account

Before applying a rule to every account, try blocking and restoring access for a test account. Check that a teammate can find the cause in the logs and restore access with the available permissions. Document the steps so recovery does not depend on the person who configured the rule.
