Travis Kalanick’s Atoms might be getting into the robotaxi business

Atoms, the startup founded by former Uber CEO Travis Kalanick, is reportedly preparing hires and acquisitions that could push it into robotaxi technology. The Financial Times says Atoms has discussed potential use of its autonomous vehicle tech with Uber, which has already invested $100M in the company.

Kalanick’s return to autonomous transportation suggests unfinished ambitions from Uber’s earlier self-driving push may be re-emerging through a better-funded startup vehicle. If Atoms can acquire talent and technology quickly, it could become another major challenger in the increasingly crowded autonomous mobility market.
