OpenAI’s new AI smart speaker will reportedly sell for between $300 and $400

Bloomberg reports that OpenAI’s first hardware device will be a portable, donut-shaped smart speaker priced around $300 to $400. Developed with Jony Ive’s LoveFrom, the device is expected to feature a premium metal design, possible moving parts, and a 2027 launch, though OpenAI faces an Apple lawsuit over alleged trade secret theft.

OpenAI appears to be positioning ChatGPT as a home AI interface, not just a software product, but the high price could limit mass adoption. The move also tests whether consumers will pay a premium for AI-native hardware in a smart speaker market that has historically struggled with profitability.
