SpaceX has bought $329M worth of Tesla Megapacks so far this year

SpaceX bought $295 million of Tesla Megapacks in Q2 and $329 million so far this year, according to its earnings report. The batteries are likely being used for xAI data centers, which SpaceX acquired earlier this year, and follow xAI’s own $430 million Megapack purchases for data center operations.

The purchases highlight how Elon Musk’s companies are increasingly operating as an interconnected industrial stack spanning rockets, AI, energy storage, and vehicles. They also show how AI infrastructure demand is pushing operators toward battery storage to stabilize GPU-heavy workloads, reduce peak power costs, and supplement on-site generation.
