Alibaba reportedly bans employees from using Claude Code

Alibaba will reportedly ban employees from using Anthropic’s Claude Code starting July 10, labeling it high-risk software. Anthropic already bars Chinese companies from using its models and has been tightening access controls to prevent unauthorized use and model distillation.

The move reflects growing fragmentation in the AI developer tools market along geopolitical and compliance lines. It may also accelerate Chinese tech firms’ reliance on domestic AI coding tools, reducing exposure to U.S. model providers while strengthening internal ecosystems.
