OpenAI poaches Uber India chief to lead its biggest market outside the US

OpenAI named former Uber India and South Asia president Prabhjeet Singh as its first managing director for India, starting in September. He will oversee consumer growth, enterprise adoption, partnerships, regulatory engagement, and operations as OpenAI expands offices and hiring across the country.

The appointment signals OpenAI’s push to turn India’s rapid ChatGPT adoption into deeper enterprise and policy footholds. India is becoming a major battleground for U.S. AI companies because of its huge developer base, internet population, and growing AI infrastructure investment.
