Chinese cybercrime operation that used AI to scam ‘hundreds of thousands of victims’ sued by Google

Google sued a group it calls Outsider Enterprise, alleging the China-based cybercrime operation used AI-generated messages to run large-scale scams. The company says the group sent 2.5 million text messages in two weeks and targeted hundreds of thousands of victims.

The case highlights how scammers are using generative AI to scale fraud campaigns with higher volume and potentially more convincing language. Legal action by major platforms may become a more common tool for disrupting cybercrime networks, alongside technical defenses and user education.

The tech giant said a group called "Outsider Enterprise" used AI to scam hundreds of thousands of victims, sending 2.5 million text messages over a span of two weeks.
