Trump Admin permits Volvo to keep selling connected cars in the U.S.

Volvo says it has received permission from the Trump administration to keep selling connected cars in the US despite its majority ownership by China’s Geely Holdings. The decision lets the automaker proceed with planned expansion at its US factory.

The move suggests US restrictions on Chinese-linked vehicle technology may include case-by-case exemptions rather than blanket bans. For global automakers, regulatory treatment of connected vehicle supply chains is becoming a key factor in investment and manufacturing decisions.

Volvo, which is majority owned by China's Geely Holdings, said it can now move forward with its expansion plans for its U.S. factory.
