Leaked Mass Effect: Universe trailer shows in-engine pre-production footage from canceled BioWare project

A roughly two-minute leaked trailer offers the clearest look yet at the canceled next Mass Effect game, described in the footage as in-engine work using pre-production assets from a small team. The montage centers on an ex-military officer in an N7 trenchcoat discussing a shift from military life to preventing conflicts before they start.

For game teams, the trailer’s own “in-engine” and pre-production labels show why early footage can establish tone and characters without proving final scope or gameplay. The trade-off is that such material can build audience interest, but if leaked after cancellation it may also amplify expectations around work that may never have been close to release; the article does not say how far development had progressed.
