Back to feedCloudflare and VoidZero announce tsrs, an experimental Rust port of TypeScript for faster, lower-memory checking

EDITOR BRIEF
Cloudflare and VoidZero, working with Max Schwenk and the TypeScript team, introduced tsrs, a Rust port of the TypeScript compiler incubated in the Oxc toolchain rather than a fork. Early benchmarks show tsrs up to 8x faster and using about 70% less memory than TypeScript 7.0 with the same type-check worker count, while TypeScript 7.1 beta is already up to 2.5x faster than 7.0 with some optimizations upstreamed from tsrs. An experimental npm package is available, but the project still has known differences such as diagnostic output order before a stable release.
INSIGHTS
Builders considering browser, edge, or sandboxed development environments may find Rust + Wasm the most relevant detail, since the article argues Rust avoids shipping a Go garbage collector into Wasm and can reduce memory pressure. The trade-off is maturity: tsrs may be useful for experiments or non-critical tooling now, but production replacement decisions should wait until compatibility gaps are minimized and stable behavior against upstream TypeScript is demonstrated.
