US plans livestream of execution by firing squad

Anonymous Defense Department officials told the BBC and Associated Press that the US plans to livestream the execution of Nidal Hasan, the former Army major convicted of killing 13 people at Fort Hood. Hasan is scheduled to be executed by firing squad on December 3 at 2PM ET. Major video platforms contacted by The Verge did not respond before publication on whether they would allow the stream.

A public livestream of a US execution would test platform rules around graphic violence, state action, and newsworthiness in an unusually high-profile case. The plan also signals a broader tension between government claims of transparency and the risk that execution media could become spectacle or extremist propaganda.
