Tesla’s Optimus robot is going through growing pains

Tesla is reportedly producing only several hundred Optimus robots per week, far below its stated goal of 20,000 weekly units. The company repurposed Model S and Model X lines for Optimus, but the much smaller robot parts require far tighter assembly precision than car components.

The report highlights how hard it is to translate automotive manufacturing expertise into humanoid robotics at scale. If Tesla cannot quickly improve yield and assembly precision, Optimus may remain more of a long-term automation bet than a near-term mass-market product.
