Uber beats Waymo as first to launch robotaxis in London

Uber has launched London’s first commercial robotaxi service using autonomous driving technology from UK startup Wayve. The rides will initially include safety drivers, giving Uber an early foothold in robotaxi operations outside the US and China.

The launch lets Uber shape consumer expectations and operational norms for autonomous ridehailing in a major European city before Waymo arrives. It also tests whether driverless mobility can gain traction in markets with dense streets, strict regulation, and established public transit options.
