Google further buries search results under AI mode

Google is automatically showing expanded AI Overviews at the top of some search results instead of requiring users to click “Show more.” The expanded panel, followed by an “Ask anything” box, can push standard web links much farther down the page and require more scrolling.

The change deepens Google’s shift from search as a gateway to the open web toward search as an AI answer engine. Publishers and SEO-dependent businesses may see more pressure as Google captures more user attention before people reach external links.
