Perplexity partners with Nvidia to launch Portable Computer, a fully local AI agent with zero token costs

Perplexity is launching Portable Computer, a local version of its agentic Computer platform developed with Nvidia for DGX Spark systems and Linux PCs with RTX GPUs. The app keeps models, files, and work on the user’s device by default, with zero token costs for local tasks and permission required before sending steps to cloud models.

The launch reflects a broader shift toward local AI as open models and consumer-accessible GPU hardware become capable enough for real productivity workflows. For Nvidia, it also expands the AI hardware story beyond massive data centers toward high-end desktops and enterprise workstations running private, low-latency agents.
