FDA authorizes Libre Duo, the first U.S. wearable to continuously track both ketones and glucose for diabetes patients

The FDA authorized Abbott’s Libre Duo 10 Day Continuous Dual Glucose Ketone Monitoring System for people ages 2 and older with diabetes. The wearable continuously measures ketone and glucose levels every minute and sends trend data to a compatible smartphone, helping users spot rising ketones before diabetic ketoacidosis becomes dangerous.

Combining glucose and ketone monitoring in one wearable could meaningfully improve safety for people with type 1 diabetes, especially children and others at higher risk of sudden DKA. The authorization also signals a broader shift toward multi-analyte continuous monitoring, where wearables track more biomarkers and move diabetes care further into real-time prevention.
