Microsoft’s Clippy-like Mico character is no longer the face of Copilot

Microsoft is retiring Mico, the expressive yellow avatar introduced for Copilot voice mode, and moving it to its Learn Live platform. The company says the character will have “more to react to” there, after initially pitching Mico as a way to give Copilot a stronger identity.

The move suggests Microsoft is still experimenting with how much personality users want from AI assistants, especially in mainstream productivity tools. Mico’s shift also echoes Microsoft’s long history of retiring virtual helpers when they fail to become enduring user interfaces.
