Agentic orchestration: Enterprise AI organizations have a deployment problem, not a platform problem — and most are calling chatbots agents

A VentureBeat Pulse survey of 101 enterprises finds agent orchestration consolidating around major model-provider platforms, with Anthropic’s Claude leading at 40%, ahead of Microsoft and OpenAI. Despite enterprise focus on multi-step execution, 71% say a quarter or fewer of their deployed agents are true orchestrated workflows rather than chatbot-style wrappers.

The findings suggest enterprises have moved faster on platform selection than on production-ready agent design. Demand for hybrid control planes shows companies want model-native benefits without vendor lock-in, while weak real-time cost controls around token usage could become a major barrier as deployments scale.
