X says top accounts steal videos from other users as it announces new video tools

X product head Nikita Bier said many videos from top accounts are stolen from other users, even years after they first went viral, while video now drives nearly half of impressions on the platform. X is launching an iOS video editor and recorder with features like multilingual captions to encourage more original content.

The move shows X trying to shift from being a repost-driven attention marketplace toward a platform with more native creation. Better tools may help creators publish directly on X, but reducing recycled video will likely require stronger attribution, incentives, and enforcement beyond editing features.
