NASA will wear high-tech Prada long johns to the Moon

Axiom Space and Prada unveiled the Liquid Cooling and Ventilation Garment, the base layer astronauts will wear beneath the AxEMU spacesuit for Artemis IV in 2028. The garment circulates cold water through embedded tubes and includes a backup cooling system plus ventilation support for lunar spacewalks.

The reveal shows how next-generation spacesuits are becoming integrated life-support platforms, not just protective outerwear. Prada’s role also underscores a broader trend of luxury and technical design firms entering aerospace to improve comfort, mobility, and human factors in extreme environments.

We've seen Axiom Space and Prada's collaboration on the Axiom Extravehicular Mobility Unit (AxEMU) spacesuit. Now the company has revealed the Liquid Cooling and Ventilation Garment (LCVG) that astronauts will wear underneath it when Artemis IV returns humans to the Moon in 2028. The LCVG is the all-important base layer that will keep the crew cool and comfortable while inside the AxEMU and on spacewalks.
