Dell and Kioxia pack nearly 10PB of QLC flash into a 2U PowerEdge server for AI and data lake workloads
EDITOR BRIEF
Dell is using Kioxia’s LC9 245.76TB NVMe SSDs to build a 2U PowerEdge R7725xd server with 9.8PB of all-flash capacity. The AMD EPYC-powered system supports up to five 400Gbps NICs, targeting AI infrastructure, large ingestion streams, data lakes, and backups.
INSIGHTS
The system highlights how QLC SSDs are pushing flash into roles historically dominated by high-capacity hard drives. As vendors including Micron, Sandisk, SK Hynix, Solidigm, and Samsung pursue 256TB-class and larger SSDs, dense nearline flash could reshape storage economics for AI and analytics workloads.
