UK housing ministry says replacing Palantir’s Homes for Ukraine refugee-matching system saved millions of pounds

The UK Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government says it saved millions by replacing a Palantir-built IT system for the Homes for Ukraine scheme with an internally developed platform. Palantir initially delivered the system for free in nine days, but later contracts reportedly reached £10M as the scheme scaled to support more than 157,000 refugees.

The move highlights growing government interest in reducing dependence on major vendors after emergency contracts evolve into costly long-term arrangements. It also reflects a broader push for in-house capability and more competitive procurement around critical public-sector data systems.
