VS Code changes Git extension default to add Copilot co-author trailers to commits when AI contributions are detected

A VS Code pull request changes the Git extension setting git.addAICoAuthor from "off" to "all" by default. The update would automatically add a Co-authored-by trailer for Copilot when AI-generated code contributions are detected.

Default attribution for AI-assisted code is becoming a product-level norm rather than an opt-in workflow choice. While this may improve transparency, it could raise developer concerns about commit provenance if attribution appears when Copilot was not meaningfully used.
